Welcome to Safe Kids Athens Area

Accidental injury is the number one cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States. Each year one out of every four children needs medical attention for an accidental injury.

Safe Kids Athens Area is one of more than 300 grassroots coalitions in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico that bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families. Safe Kids Athens Area is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to preventing childhood accidental injury. While Safe Kids Buckle Up focuses on child passenger safety, the Athens Area coalition also promotes bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, water safety, fire and burn safety, and poison safety. State and local grants provide some funding for the coalition, but most financial support comes from individuals and businesses that support our mission.
